Hat Trick for Strachan
The Canada Day weekend "Grand Prix of Ontario" was totally dominated by Prince Edward County's Malcolm Strachan. After correcting an engine problem that caused Strachan to miss practice, he proceeded to win pole position for the first of three races on the legendary twists and turns of the 2.459 mile Mosport International Raceway.
With an impressive field of GT1 cars, including Viper Competition Coupes, Turbo Porsches, Corvettes and BMWs, the first race saw Strachan dash off into the distance taking an easy win. Race two saw the same result, despite minor handling issues. For the final race, Strachan not only won, but set a time of 1:24.5, the fastest he'd ever done in the Mobil-1 Corvette.
The 22 year-old Queen's Mechanical Engineering student was also presented with an Award of Merit in recognition of his Quebec GT Championship in 2005, by the British Automobile Racing Club. Strachan will race this weekend in the ATTO Vintage GT Challenge at the Molson Toronto Grand Prix.
