Strachan wins first round of Quebec GTO Championship
After losing a new engine due to oil pump failure at Mosport, Agostino Racing Engines proved their commitment to Strachan with three of the technicians working 36 hours straight to build, install and dyno-test a new 393 cubic inch engine for the first round of the Quebec GTO Championship. Sanair International Raceway was the site for the first round of a five-race series.
Good fortune was in Strachan's corner for a change, with fastest times in practice and qualifying despite this being his first visit to the Sanair circuit. Strachan's toughest competitor for the championship, Ferdinand LeBlanc, blew the turbo engine in his Porsche 911 GT2 in testing, and then bent a valve in his normally aspirated engine in his Porsche 911 RSR during qualifying.
With rain just starting to fall at the start of the race and conditions getting worse every lap, Strachan guided his Corvette to an easy victory with Porsches following in second and third. Maximum points for the weekend went to the Konica Minolta sponsored driver.
The next event Strachan will participate in will be a round of the Puresports GT V8 Series, at Mosport on June 18-19. The next round of Quebec GTO Championship is St. Felicien on June 24-25-26.
